How to Price Your Print-on-Demand Products

Pricing is one of the most challenging aspects of running a business. Price too high, and you might scare away customers. Price too low, and you won't make a profit. Here's a simple formula to get you started.

The Basic Formula

A good starting point is:

Base Cost + (Base Cost * Desired Profit Margin) + Shipping + Marketplace Fees = Listing Price

  • Base Cost: What your print provider charges you for the product itself.
  • Desired Profit Margin: This is your profit. A common margin is 30-50%, but this can vary.
  • Shipping: What it costs to ship the item to the customer.
  • Marketplace Fees: The fees charged by platforms like Etsy (listing fees, transaction fees, etc.).

Research Your Competitors

Look at what similar products are selling for on your chosen marketplace. You don't have to match their prices, but it gives you a sense of what customers are willing to pay. If your product is higher quality or has a more unique design, you can justify a higher price.

Perceived Value

Price is also about perception. High-quality mockups, a strong brand, and excellent customer service all increase the perceived value of your products, allowing you to charge more. Don't compete on price alone; compete on value.
